April 6: ho hum, ho hum, bit by a swan to-da-y...

Well, I'm assuming that Lou made it back alright. I helped her catch the first tube line down to Heathrow, and I think we've managed a bit of a truce. Ah well, it'll get sorted out, along with everything else.

On another cheery note, I seem to be getting sick. My voice won't get very loud so people have to be within a few feet to hear me, I have a constant dull ache whispering at the back of my mind just enough for me to recognize the feeling as pain but not enough to stop me from doing anything. Also I've got a sort-of cough but it's not very strong or phlegm-ish or anything. Just sort of puffs of air, that stupid pre-cough that warns you you're sick but nobody ever takes seriously. You know the one. So, not sure if it's an allergy, a sinus cold, or a chest cold, but something seems to be going on. I dunno.

In other news a deadline sprung up on everyone today. Phillip wanted all the theatre reviews in today, but I guess most people didn't know/remember, because the entire class it seemed went "uhhh...what?! Really? That wasn't in the syllabus!" Thankfully someone came in asking about it yesterday, so to be better safe than sorry I turned in a draft of a review I had written on a whim one night because I really liked the show. No idea if it was any good, especially considering I saw the performance weeks ago and only had that rough draft to guide me while writing, but I sort of like the result. I mean, Phillip's moved the due date back to theoretically I could redo the review, but I also have a 10pg research paper to write, two internship papers to write, a project to put together, and a city to explore one last time.

Ugh! So much to prep for now! From what I can tell, the program officially ends on the 17th, there's a show I want to go to that night, and I fly out at 2pm on the 18th. Land in San Francisco assumeably on the 19th, suuuuuuper jetlagged. THEN it's another 6 hour flight to Florida, and I'm in Disneyworld from the 20th until the 26th, then Hawaii by the 27th. Tooooo much time on planes. I have learned to love the train, and it's amazingness has made airplane travel much less fun. I mean...can't airlines at least have electrical plug-ins so I can work/play games on my laptop, even without internet? The trains here not only have electricity, they have dining/food/buffet/cafe cars, free wi-fi, comfy spacious seats, and tables. Real tables! Some of them, the sleeper cars, even have beds! 6-10 hours journey by train? No problem! 11 hours on a plane, then 6 more, and who knows how many time differences...uuugh. Animal Kingdom and Epcot SO better be worth it! The story should be pretty good too.

I'm starting to miss the beach and the food at home, and warm sunshine. I'm thinking I might go to the aquarium today, just to see what they house on a different continent. There's enough species and Britain has conqured enough of the world that there should be a variety, right?

Bah, well. We'll see how things play out.

How things are playing out:

I just got back from hanging out at the 'pond' in Hyde Park. I decided to feed them my leftover stale bread from last week. There were Egyptian ducks, Blackbirds, Swans, and pigeons. The blackbirds are extremely good at catching bread in midair, even better than the sparrows back home. A three year old was having fun chasing the ducks, even though if they reared up they were taller than him. It was incredibly funny to watch them running from a human roughly their size. I managed to get some swans to take food from me, but apparently one decided that a 4 inch bit of crust wasn't enough, so he tried to eat my thumb with it. I've got a small cut near my first knuckle, it hurts a little but I find the story more amusing than the pain annoying.

I also taught a little kid about birds. I shared my bread with him and what I knew about birds. He couldn't wrap his head around "why do birds make those noises like that?" and my answer that it was how they communicated. "why do they have to make noise like that? We italians talk to communicate and don't understand because we're speaking in a different language, but they're just making noises!" I was amused.

~*~*~*~

Okay, so now it's 9pm at night, I'm currently waiting for 2am to roll around to I can pick my one required class and get some sleep, so that I can be up at 8am tomorrow and outside Metrogate at 9:30 because we have a field trip tomorrow. Then I have class until 5:30pm. It is definitely that time of year where I forget what it means to get a good night's sleep...bleeeear. Haha. It'll work out.
