Mar 20: Midnight Matinee

I just got home from the Midnight Matinee, a rather random and interesting scratch night from the Tristan Bates Theatre. Sadly the upside-down tapdancing man performance had to be cancelled due to the guy being diverted off the M1 and being lost somewhere near Notting Hill. Instead I settled myself with watching Miss Ballooniverse make balloon hats for anyone who walked by her (she's made the balloon dress twice! she was really nice) She randomly decided to make a banana tree with a monkey in it, and then gave it to me. I laughed and told her to ask me where I was from, and then I became Ms Hawaii whenever I was near her. She also made an alien hugging a guy's head, a giraffellama, a horse, and spiderman. I really wish I had taken a camera, but I didn't know at the time how random their version of a scratch night would be.

I also watched Pistol and Jack doing an amusing mashup of pop song lyrics to 90s rock songs. Most noteable to me was Gwen Stefani's Holla Back Girl to a marching tune and bananas set to Love Train, and Don't Stop Believin' sung in a thick cockney.

Here's a sample:

Hopefully that worked. Spice Girls was good, right? I was amused. Anyway.
There was also another group that sang american songs in different styles, and a piano player and a shadow puppet poetry performance. We were given free range of the space, so a couple times I missed some of the sets not knowing when/where to be. Oh! And I got there early and helped some techies and the creative director haul a piano into the black box, they seemed really surprised that I would help them until I explained I was a techie. Kind of amusing.

Also I did research for my music paper, aaaand might be going to Stonehedge on Monday. Ah wells, we shall see.

Night!
