Well, I can see what Dave meant when he said that the blogs he has everyone does get progressively more boring as the tourist bit wears off and gets replaced by us just doing what we do.
Today we went and saw the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. They're basically the best orchestra in the world, second only to the Vienna Philharmonic. They played music by Shubert, Berg, someone else, someone else...I didn't know who was playing what, only that I liked the third set, and everything else was super dark. I didn't like the Walt Whitman thing. I mean, the poem was crafted well into a terrifyingly dark opera thanks to the vocalist and the completely different soundscape with no joining moments whatsoever, but eh. Not my thing.
Note- every time an orchestra finishes a symphony, people clap, the conductor bows, leaves, the orchestra sits, people keep clapping, the conductor comes out again. Repeat however many times, depending on how much people appreciated the piece.
We managed to squeeze two encores out of the orchestra, after getting the conductor to come out five times the first time, and three times the second. You could tell the orchestra totally wanted everyone to stop, though eventually they did smile. Eventually. After that second encore though, the orchestra just broke up and put their stuff away so they could make people stop clapping. It was excessive, and crazy, and pretty dang amusing, if slightly painful.
Uhh...I went shopping today? I didn't really do anything else of interest. My Phish Food ice cream is almost gone, which is depressing.
Oh. Sooo...we're traveling up to York and Birmingham for the weekend. I remain undecided as to whether or not I will be bringing my laptop with me. I'll have my british cell phone with me though, if there's some kind of emergency or something. Otherwise, FIE will have ways to get in touch with me.
So yeah. I guess that's all for today. Cheers.
