Feb 27: No title, just my day.

Sooo mom sent me an email saying there's been a tsunami( or plural?) hitting Hawaii. I can't tell if it's good or bad though. Everyone okay?

Today I made breakfast at around 11:30am (I was up before that, just didn't feel like eating) it was alright, but my hashbrowns still are more soggy than crispy. Ah well. I'll get it someday. I have a whole sack of potatoes and 15 eggs to practice with. Then I finished the second act of A Very Potter Musical (an online satire parody of Harry Potter, except with musical theatre and all of the books mashed together with a fanbase twist.) Then I went down to the BFI IMAX to meet up with Todd and be his guest-in-attendance because his movie loving geeklike nature scored him a ticket to a "special event" preview screening for Tron 2. It turned out that after an hour of waiting (half of which was delay) we were giving 3D glasses, a black t-shirt saying "Flynn Lives" (which is exceptionally comfortable) seated in a beautifully large IMAX theatre (the "imax' theatre in normal movie theatres is nothing close to this.) and treated to a week-early release of the Tron movie trailer. I'm not sure it was entirely worth waiting an hour for a three-minute thing, but I am SO EXCITED for the movie. The graphics are beyond words amazing. Like. The 3D trumped Avatar. Seriously. There was a point where the trailer panned down from a building to a character on a motorbike, and it felt like flying. Not like a camera panning, but like you were control-jumping off a roof. Like you would in a dream, but way more detailed. Basically- Sweet. Capital S.

I decided I would try to get a ticket to see Avatar in real IMAX 3D (I thought of you dad!) But every showing is sold out solid through March 5. Seriously. Even the beyond-midnight shows. The next available was at 11:45 or so on the 11th, but I had no idea what I was doing that day, so I need to go back and try again later.

After that I came back home and was attempting to start my homework but inevitably began procrastinating. Writing using a different writing style and reviewing a radio play is difficult for multiple reasons, not the least of which being I want a good grade. I was planning on working all night, until Cat came and reminded me that Ethan was giving a concert tonight and we were gonna be late.

So I wolfed down a quick PBNJ with carrots and apple dinner, and we were off! Once again almost all of the tube lines were down for maintenance, so we had to do a silly roundabout route and got to the concert hall with only a minute or so to spare. The concert was great though. Ethan's internship got him into The City of London Choir (aka a professional high-quality choir). Here's the concise info, thanks to Time Out: (What they performed, Who played/sang, Who soloed)

Beethoven's Choral Fantasy in C minor; Piano Concerto No 5 in E flat ('Emperor'); and 'Der Glorreiche Augenblick' ('The Glorious Moment'). Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, City of London Choir and The Boys' Choir of Westminster School under Hilary Davan Wetton, with pianist Leon McCawley, Claire Rutter (soprano), Paul Nilon (tenor) and Stephen Gadd (baritone).

Leon was amazing. Not only did he play "a marathon and a half" as the conductor put it, he soloed and played amazingly fast and good and trills and keys all over the place, he did it WITHOUT SHEET MUSIC. Seriously. An hour and a half of concert, no music in front of him, soloing. His mess up would have slowed down the entire orchestra. But no, he played amazingly, and I sort of zoned out for a majority of the music because it was just that too much to handle.

Then there was an intermission (in which most of us couldn't figure out if it was the end of the concert or a break, since we clapped the conductor on and off stage three times and the orchestra went backstage, which has never happened before so far). Then all three performed "The Golden Moment," a rarely heard piece by Beethoven which hasn't been performed in London for nearly/over 50 years.

Tomorrow is Dim Sum Day! No idea what else will be going on.
